Adenoid Hypertrophy
ENTOverview
Adenoid hypertrophy refers to abnormal enlargement of the adenoids. Markedly enlarged adenoids can obstruct the nasal airway and cause abnormal facial and dental growth.
Symptoms
- Nasal congestion
- Mouth breathing
- Snoring during sleep
- Hearing loss
- Adenoid facies
Treatment
Mild cases are observed conservatively with intranasal steroids; adenoidectomy is performed when breathing or hearing is markedly affected.
Dietary advice
Eat a light, easily digestible diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables for vitamins, and avoid allergenic and spicy foods.
