Scrub Typhus

Overview

Scrub typhus, also known as bush typhus, is a natural-focus infectious disease caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi and transmitted by chigger mite larvae bites. It is characterized by an eschar or ulcer at the bite site, high fever, lymphadenopathy, and rash.

Treatment

Doxycycline or other susceptible antibiotics are the treatment of choice; early treatment gives good results, with attention to supportive care.

Dietary advice

Eat a bland, easily digestible diet, drink plenty of fluids, and ensure adequate nutrition.
