Lumbar Spondylolisthesis

Overview

Lumbar spondylolisthesis is the forward slippage of one vertebra relative to the adjacent vertebra below it. It often occurs with defects in the vertebral arch and can cause low back pain and nerve compression symptoms.

Treatment

Mild cases are managed conservatively with bed rest, back muscle exercises, and a lumbar brace; severe symptoms or marked slippage require reduction and internal fixation surgery.
