Hyperopia (Farsightedness)
OphthalmologyOverview
Hyperopia is a refractive error in which parallel light rays focus behind the retina due to a short axial length or insufficient refractive power. Mild cases may be compensated by accommodation, while more severe cases cause blurred near vision and eye strain; high hyperopia in children can cause amblyopia and esotropia.
Symptoms
- Blurred near vision
- Eye fatigue
- Headache
- Difficulty reading
- Poor concentration
Treatment
Caused by a short axial length or insufficient refractive power. Correct with convex lenses; children need timely refraction testing to prevent amblyopia.
Dietary advice
Eat a balanced diet with plenty of vitamin A-rich foods, and maintain eye hygiene.
