Cluster Headache

Overview

Cluster headache is a neurological disorder marked by recurrent severe one-sided headaches, typically around the eye, lasting 15 minutes to 3 hours. Attacks often come with tearing, nasal congestion, and redness and swelling of the eye on the affected side.

Symptoms

• Severe one-sided periorbital pain
• Tearing
• Nasal congestion
• Drooping eyelid
• Facial flushing

Treatment

During acute attacks give oxygen or triptans, and use calcium channel blockers for preventive treatment.

Dietary advice

Avoid alcohol during attack periods, keep a regular routine, and eat a bland diet.
