Laryngeal Cancer

Overview

Laryngeal cancer is a malignancy of the larynx, most of which are squamous cell carcinomas arising from the squamous epithelium of the larynx. It can form in any part of the larynx and is classified into glottic, supraglottic, and subglottic types, with glottic being the most common.

Symptoms

• Persistent hoarseness
• Foreign body sensation in the throat
• Difficulty breathing
• Neck mass
• Blood-stained sputum

Treatment

Choose surgery, radiotherapy, or combined chemoradiotherapy according to stage; laryngeal function can be preserved in early stages.

Dietary advice

Quit smoking and alcohol, eat high-protein high-calorie soft foods, and gradually resume diet after surgery per medical advice.
