Ovarian Cyst
Obstetrics & GynecologyOverview
An ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac within the ovary that usually causes no symptoms, though patients occasionally experience bloating, lower abdominal pain, or lower back pain. Rarely, when a cyst ruptures or is accompanied by ovarian torsion, it can cause severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and even near-fainting, but the vast majority of ovarian cysts are harmless.
Symptoms
- Lower abdominal discomfort
- Abdominal mass
- Menstrual irregularity
- Bloating
- Frequent urination
Treatment
Physiological cysts often resolve on their own and require regular follow-up, while pathological or larger cysts should be evaluated and managed under medical guidance.
Dietary advice
Eat a light, balanced diet with plenty of vegetables and fruits, and avoid excessive high-fat and high-sugar foods.
