Chronic Gastritis

Chronic Gastritis

Gastroenterology

Overview

Gastritis is inflammation of the gastric mucosa from various causes, with epithelial injury and regeneration. Helicobacter pylori infection is considered the main cause of chronic gastritis.

Symptoms

  • Upper abdominal dull pain
  • Bloating
  • Belching
  • Acid reflux
  • Poor appetite
  • Nausea

Treatment

Address the cause—eradicate H. pylori, stop irritant drugs—and use acid suppressants or mucosal protectants as needed. Eat regularly and avoid smoking and alcohol.

Dietary advice

Eat at regular times, chew slowly, choose light and easily digestible foods, and have small frequent meals. Avoid spicy, cold, overly sour foods and strong tea or coffee.
