Threatened Miscarriage

Overview

Threatened miscarriage refers to a small amount of vaginal bleeding before 28 weeks of pregnancy, with or without mild lower abdominal pain and low back soreness, while the cervical os remains closed, the membranes are intact, and no products of conception have been expelled. With bed rest and pregnancy-preserving treatment, some cases can continue to term.

Symptoms

• Mild abdominal pain

Treatment

Seek prompt medical care and bed rest, avoid overexertion and sexual activity, and follow medical advice for pregnancy-preservation assessment and management.

Dietary advice

Eat a light, nutritious, easily digestible diet, and avoid raw, cold, and blood-activating foods.
