Seborrheic Dermatitis

Overview

Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic, relapsing dermatitis occurring in seborrheic areas of the skin. It presents as yellowish-red patches of variable size with dry, moist, or greasy scales and usually itching, mainly affecting the scalp, face, chest, back, and skin folds.

Symptoms

• Greasy scales
• Erythema
• Increased dandruff
• Itching
• Common on face and scalp

Treatment

Topical antifungal washes and mild corticosteroids are used, controlling oil secretion and maintaining a regular routine.

Dietary advice

A light diet with less greasy and sweet food and more B-vitamin-rich foods.
